Meeting Minutes

2/1/2010

Winter Wonderland Race:  There were approximately 200 participants at this year’s race. Fees involved in the race included awards, T-shirts, food and a donation to Platt tech for the use of the facilities. We ended up on the positive side of $1,300 dollars.

July 4th Race:  We are going to need everyone’s help and support for the race. Last year’s race had a lot of volunteers and we would like to continue this for the 2010 race. This is not a USATF race this year – so everyone is working.  We will need people to help with marketing, obtaining sponsors, goody bag tokens and items for the raffle. Start thinking about what you have seen at races that works or what you would like to do or any changes that you may want to see. Sponsorship: If you know a business, ask about “freebies” for goody bags, raffle or a donation.

We will have a Kid’s race this year, but may look at changing the location for safety. We discussed the possibility of the track.

Hopefully Courtney Honda will sponsor this event again. We are hoping to retain other sponsors from last year.

Membership: There are currently 146 members in the club. Fifty new members joined last year.

USATF:  There are seven (7) races. The first one will be the WPLR 5K race held on 3/01/2010. You will need a membership number if you plan on racing for the team. You must join prior to the first race.

Finances:  Currently, there is $12,000 in our account. Annually we spend approximately $6,000 per year: $1,000 scholarship funds, $1,000 Holiday party and $1,000 for children’s track meets.

We are looking for ideas on how to spend money:  One idea is a timing clock for the races. We can use for our two races and the kid’s track series. We can also lease out. We will need group vote on this in accordance to the bylaws. Betsy will send out an email and each member will need to vote within two weeks.

Ragnar Relay:  The next Ragnar Relay will be held 5/21 – 5/22/2010 from Lighthouse Park to Harvard Stadium.  We have a free entry for one team. Each team has twelve members split up between two vans. There are 9 returning members from last year’s event. We would like to have two teams this year. We will divide all costs between both team members. We have already reserved two vans.  This is a lot of fun. You do not have to be fast or a distance runner.

Social events:  Any ideas for any other social events. We hope to have 1X per month. Potential ideas:  ice-skating, Karaoke, Bluefish Game. Final Friday at the New England Brewing Company has been popular with club members. Next Final Friday:  February 25, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
